Proposed Merger
POSTPONED!
The Boards of The Clockhouse and New Charlton Community Centre have agreed that the two organisations should merge, on the 31st March 2020.
We believe this merger is an exciting opportunity to support our vision of helping to make our Woolwich and Charlton area healthy, happy, secure and vibrant. Our aim is to offer more shared spaces and improved services for our community by:
-
Delivering more ambitious community projects through our pooled resources;
-
Providing more space and flexibility for the community by offering two centres within a combined catchment area;
-
Increasing efficiency through combined fundraising and marketing and by reducing some day to day running costs;
-
Offering better services and value for money by sharing the expertise of both Boards; and
-
Simplifying engagement with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and other funders, who provide generous support for our work.
The services we offer our existing customers will be unaffected since both centres will be retained with existing pricing and, in the longer-term, all of our customers will benefit from planned improvements to both centres and more availability and choice.
We believe our plan will put our two community centres at the heart of life in Woolwich and Charlton.
The Clockhouse and New Charlton have been collaborating closely over the last year with the Clockhouse providing all of the Administration and Finance services for both centres. Given the success of our cooperation and joint planning, we expect this merger to be straightforward. Last year, the Boards set up a joint Merger Sub-committee of Trustees to review and plan the merger process and this committee has now recommended that the merger can go ahead.
There will be a formal vote of our users, members and stakeholders at a joint General Meeting on Monday the 23rd March 2020.
In the meantime, we are seeking the views of all of our customers on the proposed merger.
Can we ask you to please get in touch with your comments or questions, by sending them to Kevin McBrien, the Manager of the Clockhouse on email at: manager.clockhouse@gmail.com
We look forward to hearing from you.
